In SLA development,researchers' focus gradually shifts from native language and target language to language learner and learner language.This paper combined the two ends together,language learner and learner language,and offered an introduction to language learner's affective factors and features of learner language. As individuals,language learners receive input in settings and produce their learner languages. Learner language is different from both native language and target language. As a continuum of language learners' stages in SLA ,it is characterized by variability,including systematic and non-systematic variability.The two ends are just like two sides of the same coin:the producer and the product. As to their relationship,the writer made an analogy between SLA and what happens in a factory. The process of apprentices acquiring a skill in a factory is like that of a language learner acquiring a second language in a setting,though the latter is more complex and time-consuming in that besides multiple affective factors,second language serves as both medium and target.As this paper is teaching-oriented,the writer pointed out teaching implications based on SLA theories,which may be beneficial to second language teachers as well as learners.
