| Numeral is one independent word class in modern Chinese vocabulary system with indispensible roles in making up words and sentences. The paper makes a comprehensive analysis of numeral from the perspective of grammar. Firstly,it delimits the object of the study,distinguishes between numeral adjective interrogatory pronoun and numeral phrase and concludes that numeral is a type of closed word class. Secondly,the paper describes comprehensively the distrubution of numeral and the grammatical function:Numeral may combine with classifier ^ modifier noun,verb and adjective and function as subject,predicate object attributive adverbial complement and other elements. Besides,with the purpose of disclosing the application and function of numeral,the paper analyses fundamentally such problems as forms,ambiguity and flexible applications of numeral and the comparison between related numerals.The paper aims at intensifying the degree of profundity in understanding modern Chinese numeral,which may push forward the grammatical study of the whole Chinese grammatical system and plays a significant role for teaching,especially the teaching of Chinese as the second language. |
