It is a good access to easy interpretation of The Book of Songs as well as the social life and historical condition in it to study The Book of Songs from the angle of customs. Hence, it is necessary to have a systematic comprehension of these customs. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part reviews previous studies on the issue. Due to the lack of integrity and systematization in the past studies, it is quite important to have a classification of the customs in The Book of Songs, by closely relating these customs to The Book of Songs. The second part has a survey and classification of the customs in The Book of Songs. The customs can be roughly divided into five kinds: marriage and love, fete, augury, agricultural activities and others. On the basis of the sections and chapters in The Book of Songs, with the help of related reference classic books and records, the thesis describes each kind of custom in detail, trying to display the essential states of these customs. On the basis of the former two parts, the third part explores the customs in The Books of Songs, in consideration of their specific historical background in the given time. By comparing different customs in different time, the thesis at last discloses the cultural significance of customs in The Book of Songs.
