"What the Official Historian says", which is an organic part of Records of Historian, is the important material for study of Sirna Qian's thought9 and is one of the major subjects of the Study on Records of Historian. This thesis is an attempt to do further study on the contents of "What the Official Historian says", in order to understand deeply the quintessence of Siina Qian and his work of Records of Historian on the basis of the former scholars'studies. For "What the Official Historian says"involves too much contents, this thesis only expounds it in four aspects: (I) the succession, name, and function of the historical critical form of "What the Official Historian says" (2) the exposition about the related problems of writing Records of Historian; (3) relations between "What the Official Historian says"and "fact recordings"in Records of Historian, "What the Official Historian says"and "resolution to writing" (4) the comments on the tragic in personages of Records of Historian.
