Zhang Hua was a famous politician and litterateur in the Western JinDynasty. He had a higher political status and was rich in literaiy grace. He wasthe key poet in the changing of style of poetry in Wei and Jin dynasties. For along time, people's appraisal on Zhang Hua is not high because of the commentof Zhong Rong. Recently, educational circles paid attention to Zhang Hua'sstatus on literature history to some extent, but lacked a systematic andcomprehensive study on his literature. This thesis attempts to open up the newregions on Zhang Hua and his literature roundly and systematically, hoping to behelpful to the study on Zhang Hua.The thesis includes three sections:Section One: Zhang Hua and the political and cultural backgroundin Wei and Jin dynastiesZhang Hua was born poor. It was his fellow villager Lu Qin and hisfather-in-law Liu who had a far-reaching impact on his thought and literarycreation. In addition, the politics in that period was extremely confused, andmany scholars had been massacred. The severe political environment hadexerted an enormous influence on his psychology and literary creation. At thattime, Confucianism was on the decline, while Xuan-xue on the rise. Under theinfluence of this kind of ideological trend of literature, Zhang Hua had formedthe thought and personality of revering both Confucianism and Xuan-xue, whichwas embodied in his poetry and prose to some extent.Section Two: Zhang Hua's literary viewsZhang l-Iua had no literary critical writings. But through some scatteredmaterials, we can find out some literature views of Zhang Hua. First of all, hepursued the innovation of the literature subject matter, and advocated themagnificence of the literature form. Secondly, he advocated the succinctness,and objected to the miscellaneousness. At last, he advocated that one shouldemphasize the expressing of emotion while paying attention to the word diction.These views influenced on the literature thoughts of Lu yun and Liu Xie.Section There: Zhang Hua's literary creationIOn poemsi. Yue Fu Poetry: This kind of poem mostly criticized the situation of thetime, and expressed his idea of making contributions and starting his career,which displayed another side of the style of his poetry.ii.Wu Yan Poetry: According to the concrete analysis of random poems,Zeng Da poems and love poems, I expound the feature of laying stress onemotion expressing and word diction.iii.Si Yan Poetry: This kind of poem was mainly the writings of acceptingthe emperor's order and writing poems with the same rhyme sequence. But "Li3Zhi Shi" of Zhang Hua expressed his thoughts of following the Confucianismand diligently studying classics, which was the comparatively outstanding worksin his Si Yan Poetry.(II): Style of poetryFrom the three respects of poetizing as a means of Fu, being good atquoting classical allusions and being skilled in words, I explain the newcharacteristic showing in his poems and his initiatory function of the style ofpoetry in the Western Jin Dynasty. Pieces of China poem create and demonstrate.The creation of poetry of Zhang Hua represented the trend of advancinggradually to the Tang Dynasty "modern style" poetry.(III): Creation of Fu and proseAmong them, the Fu expressed the seclusion thoughts of Taoism, andproses were mostly the reflection of the moral concept of the Confucianists,which represented the thought of revering both Confucianism and Xuan-xue. Inthe representation of art, the Fu paid attention to the magnificence, antithesis andquoting classical allusions just as his poetry. Its whole writing style tended toantithesis, displaying certain era characteristic.(W): Creation of fiction"Record of natural history" of Zhang Hua was an agglomeration ofgeo-naturalistic fictions.
