Religion and literature have maitained close relations with each other since they came into being. Buddhaism, which has been introduced into China for more than 1, 000 years, has had greatly influnced Chinese culture. Taking a sweeping view of the history of Chinese literature, countless writers have dug materials and sought inspirations from Buddhaism, therefore, footprints of Buddhaism could be found everywhere. Modern and contemporary writers have quite profound classical literary accomplishments; moreover , they were very fond of those writers who reflected Buddhaism in their works, in this way, they themselves received the influnce of Buddhaism consiously or unconciously. It is easy to find trace of Buddhaism in the thoughts and works of modern authors such as Lu Xun and Xu Dishan, their life story and the social environment they underwent made the influnce of Buddhaism possible. It is full of Buddhist allegorical word in Lu Xun?s 揘ew Year?s Sacrifice?, this novel embodies 搇ife is all painful? because Sister Xianglin suffers a lot in her life; Juan Sheng in 揗ourn the Dead?leads a life devoid of meaning both before and after the death of Zi Jun, and he can?t escape from his emptiness; Lun Xun conveys his strong emotions and cries out against injustice in his novel 揗edicine?by way of making the ghost?s presence felt; 揕oners?reflects inner loneness and pain, and manifests the creed of Buddhaism: Life is death, death is life; 揥eeds?and 揅all to the Arms?sighs with feeling for life?s emptiness however, it also stronglyresists life?s emptiness. XuDishandwellson life?s emptiness in his book 揘atural Moutain and Rain?, he favors agreement with the nature, which is quite different from Lu Xun?s strong 4- 4& ~* *~ 3 resistance against life?s emptiness; He converses with his wife in 揑ncense?arid 揂 Vow Made to Buddha?to clarify the creed of Buddhaism; In his book, Xu Dishan uses many images of Buddhaism to express his feelings. In a word, to some extent, Lu Xun and Xu Dishan?s throughts and works can reflect the influence of Buddhaism on modern and contemporary literati and their creation.
