During the history of Chinese contemporary literature criticism, the first time the terminology olitical tendency used to affirm the literature value seemed to start from C speech on forum on stage plays efore and after Clear and Bright Festival and ragrant grasses all over the world held by Xin Hua Daily on November 10, 1945. It also geared to actual circumstances of many Chinese modem writers works. This paper comments and analyzes on Mao Dun novels polltical tendency and analyses into it. It has three parts: Part one, pholding utility: a kind of traditional contemporary cultural concept originating exactly from Chinese traditional culture and contemporary culture. It show that those Chinese writers who live in modern China, surrounded by the cultural context of upholding utility, have to make literature go nearer to politics or even combine with the politics. After Maozhedong peech in may 1942, literature and the direction of politics interacted. As it were Chinese contemporary writers ao Dun as a typical one heir political tendency of literature and artistic creation is spontaneous, and rather conscious. Part two, olitical tendency: the spiritual pulse of Mao Dun novels. It demonstrates, that discussion and analysis on political tendency is his novels spiritual pulse all the time from the view of combination of his life pursuit and literature creation experiences. Part three, ignificance of value: facing up to political tendency It confirms the value of MaoDun novels political tendency and thinks the value orientation of his novel political utility is combined tightly with his insight into life and his accurate master on the art nature and law. Therefore, his novels contain epic-like connotations and trains. It supplies a model to deal with the problem of theory and creation practice, namely, he relationship between literature and politics.
