Taiwan During The Qing Dynasty, The Barbarians, The Policy Of (1683-1874),

After the Qing government occupied Taiwan, its ruling position inTaiwan was gradually strengthened and various Taiwan──ruling policieswere made and increasingly perfected. Policy for governing minoritieswas one of the policies. The exploration of the topic will help us to havea full understanding of national policies in Taiwan in the Qing Dynasty,and thus provides us with historical basis of scientifically mastering theHan and Minority relationship at that time.This paper, with the Policy for governing minorities as the main clue,gives an account of the social commotion in Taiwan in the Qing Dynasty.And analyses the internal relations between the formulation of Policyfor governing minorities and the changes of Taiwan society. Based onthis, the paper gives a full account of the relationship between the Policyfor governing minorities and land development, and that between thePolicy for governing minorities and Minority social changes. Finally,this paper appraises the policy in term of its perfection, changes,advantages and disadvantages.In this paper, the writer holds the view that Policy for governingminorities changed as Taiwan society Taiwan──ruling ideas of the Qinggovernment and their attention changed. But on the while, the Policy forgoverning minorities had characteristic of excess of sense of principleand lack of feasibility. And the Policy for governing minorities itself hadboth its progress and limitations.
