This paper intends to inquire into the evolutionary character of clan theme through Chinese modem and contemporary literature, and probes into the changing relationship of the authors hidden attitude, potential pole and literary view on this foundation. I hold in this paper that: from the beginning of the century to 40抯 ,the clan theme of the novels inclined to describe the falling process of the feudal clan, the clan structure modal of the work was generally the falling of the forefathers, the loss of the elder generation抯 right and the running-away of the descendants. From 50抯 to 70抯; the collectivization, original communism and the Utopia impulse in the novels still was literal prototype of the clan system also was the inevitable outcome of the writer抯 ideas guiding literary creation and the expression which political ideology totally controlled the writer抯 thoughts in the 30抯 and 40抯 .in the later 80抯, the clan theme of the novel tends to judge the role and the implication of the clan in Chinese literature from the point of view of literal introspection as the reflection of the people historical development, the clan抯 fate involved in many important sociologic problems, such as marital relationship, reproductive culture ,consciousness of blood relation -ship .The clan theme of the novels in the 90抯 haven抰 focus on describing the real background and the structure of the clan ,with the help of the vague but vivid metaphor about clan, it reveals the existing state of the history and expresses existing tension of self From the analysis above, we can see clearly that the narration about the author抯 attitude and the character抯 narrative function keep on changing ,the form of narration changes gradually from collective word to individual word .the text changes gradually from the emphasis on the image of political text namely the entirety of the text to the fabrication of the cultural text.
