Acting as prop to the commercial operation of movie industry, maintaining movie抯 reproduction, genre movies have become one of the main trends in movie industry, which can not be neglected.But in China, genre movies have been misinterpreted for a long time due to the historical and cultural reasons. However, the promotion of commodity economy and the prosperity of mass culture bring about the development in Chinese genre movies. Some relevant statistics show that Chinese抯 movie market has great potential. It is of great probability to produce genre movies with Chinese characteristic. Therefore, we need to study and probe into the production and tactics of good genre movies around the world, so as to make excellent genre movies with Chinese characteristic.This paper discussed genre movies under the western aesthetic milieu, mainly using western aesthetic elemental viewpoint, such as psychoanalysis theories, structuralism, and semiotic theories and post modernity theories. There are some generic characters:duality and reproducibility and accumulations and predictability and consumerism, which make movie genre differ from other films. Also there are some aesthetic specific marks in movie genre: ample aesthetic space, single and universal aesthetic value criterion, and most elemental movie aesthetic specificity.Otherwise, genre movies satisfy the needs of spectator as aesthetic psychology in the following ways: they can bring visual pleasure, meeting the demands of audience抯 subconsciousness.
