Different from the styles of other wartime spy-themed dramas, Qian Fu has made its success but still there are many opinions on the reason. From the perspective of a screenwriter, the author holds the opinion that its success comes from its dramatization which is based on reality. Also, the reason relies on its breakthrough in characterization and dramatic narrative. The dissertation consists of three parts: introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction gives a general view of the historical development of spy-themed television dramas. The body is made up of four chapters. The first chapter expounds on the dramatization of Qian Fu which is set on the basis of reality by the analysis on the relation between reality and dramatization. The second chapter deals with the breakthrough which Qian Fu has made in characterization from three aspects: the heroic characterization of the hero, the characterization of the heroine, and that of the negative characters. The third chapter proves that the narrative of Qian Fu has not only the feature of the wartime spy-themed television drama but also that of other types of television dramas. In addition, it is original in its narrative structure. In Chapter 4, the author makes a further exploration on the reasons of its success in dramatization and its disadvantages.
