Youth film as a type of film in the world, have played an important role in many countries and regions , but because of war, revolution and the "Cultural Revolution" and other specific historical reasons, before the new period, youth film has not became the mainstream of movie in China over a very long time ,and even have not a youth films of the strict sense, young people on the screen have been placed in the background of the time and countries, the value of their individual has been intentionally or unintentionally ignored.Until the new period, the youth film has been developed largely , particularly in the nineties of the twentieth century, after the sixth generation of film directors appears.They took the lens at the memories oftheir own, have shooted a large number of youthful films.Such as LuXuezhangs Grown Up,JiangWens In The Heat Of The Sun,WangXiaoshuais Beijing Bicycle,JiaZhangkes Platform,Unknown Pleasures,ZhangYangs Sunflower etc.They have attracted wide attention at home and abroad.To Taiwan, youth film has been a symbol of Taiwans films. From the New Cinema Movement of Taiwanthe in early eighties. Youth film has been flourishing as ever.Such as HouHsiao-hsiens The Boys from Fungkuei,The Time to Live and The Time to Die,Dust in the Wind, YangDechangs Taipei Story , A Brighter Summer Day, Zhang Zhiyongs A Little Bird Tweeted and so on.From the new century, Blue Gate as the originator, Taiwanese film has emerged a number of themes, styles similar youth films.Such as Wan 9 zhao 5 , Formula 17 , Secret,Keeping Watch , Island Etude, Winds of September etc., these works are very different from the previous Taiwanese youth film in the form and content , showing a new artistic features.And these films received large success in the market,.Especially in the summer of 2008 the most popular film Cape No.7 ,and even set the highest grossing in Taiwan Mandarin.And still very popular by now,.We really can not but cause concern.This paper is divided into five parts and take a comparative study of youth film Both sides in China : The first chapter is to explain the meaning of the youth film; The second chapter introduces the three narrative themes of youth films, they are abou the youth rebellion,the youth"rouge",the pain of growth ; The third chapter introduces the development process of youth film in the mainland and Taiwan ; The fourth chapter is the narrative comparence of the two youth films ; Finally is the Discussion of the development direction and the trends of two youth film. I hope this paper can inspire the person who like the youth film, If itcan give people inspiration, then I am very pleased.
