Bai Ye's literary criticism in contemporary literary critics has unique features. His criticism has broad vision and scope. He is both good at grasp the overall trend of literary development,but also to explore the value of factors from the details of works. Bai Ye entered into the critics from the late seventies of last century. Since then he has been tireless and get down to hard work in his own field. He started from an editor and then grow into an important person of contemporary literary critics. Thirty years, he sticks to literary criticism and explored his own brand on literary criticism, which include review of literary theory, literature reviews and annual literary report. With tolerant attitude, humanitarian feelings,Bai Ye concerns and examines the development and changes of literature. He admired the older generations, understand their peers, concerned about the junior. He not only paid lots attention and support the after 1980 generations'youth literature, and did long-term follow-up study, but also actively participate in the after 1980 generations literature's conference and academic reports which is important to the growth of the after 1980 generations. He is the founders of contemporary youth literature.Except the introduction and conclusion, this thesis has three parts.The introduction part generally introduced the basis of the topic the goal of the research and the research status.The first part is the ideological content of Bai Ye's literary criticism. From the tolerant, humanitarian, sense of responsibility we elaborated Bai Ye's ideological content of literary criticism. Bai Ye always uses a tolerant attitude to face and deal with the problems whether in life or in literature reviews. On specific writers and their works he always read and concerns them with the humanism. From his papers we can find his responsibility of the society and moral as a literary critic. These three aspects influenced and infiltrated each other and constitute the ideological content of Bai Ye's literary criticism.The second part is the style and characteristic of Bai Ye's literary criticism. First we discribed the overview of literary criticism of Bai Ye, then we introduced the literary theories which have important roles on Bai Ye's literary criticism. After that we combined specific works of literary criticism and articles to elaborate, analyze and summarize the gentle and honest style of Bai Ye's literary criticism. At last, we analyzed and researched the deep reason of the formation of this style and characteristic from the social culture and psychological aspects.The third part is Bai Ye's literary activities which advanced with times. We analyzed a series of Bai Ye's literary activities and focused on his concerns and supporting the after 1980 generation's youth literature. He planned to launch the after 1980 generation writers'works which named as"Cloth Tiger Series". He also wrote prefaces to the works of youth literature works, and participated in a series of relevant meetings and academic reports. In 2007 he proposed to establish" Youth Committee" in writers association. Regardless of his literary criticism or literary activities, they both have distinct characteristics of the times.In short, this thesis started from the ideological content, style criticism and literary activities, trying to give an overall summary of Bai Ye's literary criticism, and to sort out other relevant information. We hope all these work can provide preliminary information and reference for future study of Bai Ye.
