Study Of Political Language Of Metaphor

Metaphor is not only a rhetorical means but also an important cognitive mechanism and a way of thinking for humans. Metaphor gets in touch with political language. Political fact is composed by metaphor. Metaphor plays an important role in political languag. If metaphor leaves political language,it will not exist. Metaphor is the lifeline of politics. Political events can not be perceived directly. We need to define related problems with metaphor. When politicians are expressing their political thoughts or promoting their policys, they usually choose familiar metaphors to make the audiences understand esaily. In this way, it can achieve the best effect of transmition. Predecessors study the metaphor of political language metaphor about English. Up to now, it lacks the systematic study of political language metaphor about Chinese. This article selects the representative materials. Because of this, the purpose of this study is interpreting the character of metaphors in political language through the analysis of the metaphor in political language.In this article, we select the report of central government in 2006-2010 central government work corpus. Firstly, we deal the corpus with quantitative research. With the help of quantization,we describe the metaphorical phenomenon with the statistics of quantity, frequency and propotion. Moreover, We make our analysis with related linguistic theroies. It makes us have a clear understanding about the metaphor in political language.Through the analysis, we summarize nine metaphorical modes of the political language. The use of frequency from high to low in turn is:the body metaphor, the engineering metaphor, the war metaphor, the journey metaphor, the flow metaphor, the plant metaphor, the container metaphor, the family metaphor, the flag metaphor. Then we go on qualitative analysis from cognitive perspective. We analyse, classify, conclude and generalize the metaphor of the central government report. Then we find the application rule and work mechanism of the political language. We summarize the character of metaphors in political language:in the selection of metaphorical model. Metaphorical model is often used in modern chinese. People is familiar with the source domain. In the political life of our country, there will be many new situation arises and new problems in each year, but the use of metaphorical types has no change. It shows the firmness of political language. In the features of semantic, the metaphor of political language has own system. In the metaphor of political language, source domain is almost similar to target. The metaphor that often appearing often used by people in their daily life. Because they are often used, perhaps they can't be apperceived by people. So we can see that the level of metaphor in political language is low. The above statement is basing on the former research. We find out the findings through counting and analysing. There may be many deficiencies in this article. The purpose of this article is deepening the understanding of metaphor through the analysis the metaphor in political language. We hope that this study can make compensation in the future study of the political language.
