This paper mainly adopts literature review and Works analysis method. Based on widely collecting the YangWeiZhen's calligraphy works and related literature research on him , the author summarizes YangWeiZhen's artistic views and fully considers the background of the times, traces the origin of models which Yang learned from; induces the characteristic of Yang's running and cursive script ,that is"stipple disorder, galloping on length and breadth, self expression, aspersing temperament and outstanding". On the same time, the author analysises scholars'evaluation on Yang's running and cursive script since Ming and Qing dynasties and Yang's position in the history of Chinese calligraphy, objectively analysises today's scholars'understanding about Yang's calligraphy. The main conclusion of this study is: seemingly, Yang's calligraphy work is really weirdness; essentially, it shows his rebel personality and great artistic talent. Consequently, the author thinks that wangshizhen's view of"an undisciplined monk becomes a saint"is an affirmation. This conclusion not only is reconsideration on the origin and characteristics of Yang's calligraphy style, but also is reconsideration on his position in the history of Chinese calligraphy.
