As one of the successful filmmakers representing the Chinese Directors of the Sixth Generation, Wang Quan'an has already won a great fame and acclaim worldwide in indie film industry. Remarkable traits in his filmmaking can be traced and spotted by reading and analyzing his works. His touch and manner in filming has developed essentially from sharp and splendid image-depicting at the beginning of his career to a more gentle, introvert and mature style by a series of filmmaking. Another important feature of his works is his constant concerning to women and women life, which is treated as label and a deliberate trait of his works, because he has never given up the observation and thinking of women and their life and hence make the female characters on screen vivid and adorable. With more and more success and awards from abroad and domestically, Wang Quan'an is drawing more and more public praises and attention.This thesis, based on the intensive reading of Wang's four pieces of movies, deals with his filming experience, image, narrative and elements of feminism contented beneath, which shall be chronologically analyzed and establish the inner relationship between all the four parts above by the means of comparative study, highlighting the tie-up between his image and the feminism concepts.The reflecting and exercising of the image and audio language of his works helps us understand and care about the transmutation about his filmmaking from subjective and individual expression to a broader vision of concerning about the reality. At the same time, the female figures in his films are in depth read by spotting and comparing their resemblances and differences, which are mainly depicted as resemble distress along with confusion and different solution and results. The whole thesis shall offer a broaden perspective in understanding Wang Quan'an's films and his personal reflection.
