Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things is a story about love, filled with the pursuit of love. However, in the face of a mighty social tradition, in the limit of the Love Laws, the characters in the novel repeatedly broken the provisions of the Love Laws, exceeded the various limits, but all ended up drowning in love, are not out of the tragic fate. In this novel, the Love Laws and "love's cross-border" form a huge force field, in each other's game to show a strong tension.I try based on the Love Laws and "love's cross-border" two basis points, through in-depth mining the Love Laws' connotation and the characteristic, displaying characters about "love's cross-border" story, looking for find important images in the contains the reason of love can not obtain, to explore the novel's themes of love drowned.Text is divided into three chapters.The first chapter discusses the Love Laws which has the enormous influence in the novel. The first section outlines the Indian cultural traditions that the Love Laws rooted, showing the daily life of its norms of Indian society and its effects on love, marriage of profound impact.
