Oratorio St.Paul is one of Mendelssohn's famous works of church music,reflecting the composer's unique religious thought.This dissertation carries out research on the oratorio's religious connotations,from the script content and the musical forms, mainly with the method of musicological analysis,thoroughly elaborate on his spiritual motivation in church music on the basis of exploration the oratorio.This dissertation puts the composition into the religious context of the 19th century, and the composer's special religious status, summarizes three kind of religious concept: God; Salvation and Rational beliefs. For example, the composer use a specific theme established the good image of God; use the story by Paul beliefs change, highlighting the significance of Salvation; though comparing the image of conservative Jews with the loves of Christian atmosphere, highlights the composer's own critical and rational.
