"line" In Shaanxi Folk Art Decorative

With a long-standing history, Shaanxi Province is one of the main birthplaces of Chinese civilization. In the past long time for 2,000 years,13 dynasties have built capitals here, such as Zhou, Qin, Han, Tang, etc. that make it the development centre in Chinese history, economy and culture. The folk art of Shaanxi is bred in such an ancient and deep fertile soil of culture and grows up, which inherits the particular inside cultural information of Chinese nation and develops the essence of culture from the folk custom of Shaanxi area.Shaanxi folk art is not only large in the amount of works and authors, but also unusually rich in content and subject, and has colorful form and magnificent and moving style in artistic expression, such as the decorative "line". Taking the paper-cut, shadow puppet, wood engraving new-year painting, clay sculpture and stone lion on the end of a kang for example, this thesis makes a systematic arrangement of different shape types and described them in classification. Through a contrast study of plentiful matters and images, combining on-the-spot investigation for many times and the theory and the method studied in aesthetics and art, this thesis tries to analyze the using of "line" in Shaanxi folk art. The lines in Shaanxi folk art not only has been influenced by Chinese ancient philosophical thinking, but also has been deep influenced by the art of line in painting and calligraphy that is full of national characteristics and can show the national spirit. Shaanxi folk art values the expression of the linguistic of line, but comparatively doesn't put much emphasis on the character of the form realism. It values the spirit but underestimates the form. The aesthetics principles such as symmetry and balance, neatness and unity, repeat and circle, rhythm and cadence make the line rich in decoration.Shaanxi folk arts shapes by line, and decorates by line, which brings the decorative aesthetic feeling of the art of line into full play and gives the line a life and a spirit.
