Catholicism In China's First Chinese Journal Beneficial Wen Lu Study

To outline the evolution path of church periodical in latter Qing dynasty and provide the literature support, read all the 950 photocopies in the period of 1879—1898 to analyze the media organization form, the disseminators, editing communication strategy and science communication contents including the natural science and social science knowledge of Catholicism institution publication Yi Wen Lu systematically, and disguss the check function in Gatekeeper theory from disseminator to the periodical. Methods of Literature analyzing and researching are used. The results show that:Yi Wen Lu was the first Chinese periodical of Catholicism published in China. Its purpose was disseminating religious content.Besides this, it also included the massive science and the news current events. The Chief Editor Li Di was a faithful catholic missionary and apologist. He wrote more than 60 kinds works and established 3 kinds Catholicism periodicals in all his life. Not only was he the first reporter in Chinese Catholic but also the first chinese editor in missionary journals. Under his influence, Yi Wen Lu presented the particularity in the edition dissemination strategy. For example, created a method of reading of marks the sentences and phrases with the ink spot; used of information, communications, reviews and other news genres Comprehensively; adhered the News Editor principles of deleting the annoying recorded; and extended the strategy of Integrating the Chinese and western culture into the level of philosophy; took reveres the king to sweep clean the opinion barrier in politics; secularize the contents and journal spread again to attract more readers. In dissemination content, it not only printed the Chinese provinces map on the journal firstly, but also recorded the area and boundaries of Qinghai Lake and agricultural machinery farming for the first time; also earlier reported the event of China's first submarine. And it was one of the journals that reported the value of collecting stamp. When introduced the astronomy knowledge, it could distinguish the science and the theology clearly, which showing its particular characteristic in natural sciences knowledge dissemination. The study concluded that:Yi Wen Lu has filled the historical blank of Catholicism dissemination in the Chinese, has cannot disappear historical merit in developing the Catholicism social impact aspect. Li Di took a special position in Catholic and knew Chinese and western culture depthly, which made Yi Wen Lu have typical dissemination characteristic that combined Chinese and western culture. It spreaded system of natural science knowledge with objective and scientific manner, which had special significance in natural science communication history. It was the first religious publication that edited independently by a Chinese which was groundbreaking in religious history and Chinese journalism history.
