The desire for better a life and security is the common wishe shared by all human beings. The expression ways of different nationalities are various due to their different cultural backgrounds. By a comparative study of the similarities and differences in expressional techniques of the Yi and Han auspicious patterns, this thesis analyzes the reason for its formation and reveals its cultural connotations.Firstly, this thesis makes a brief introduction to the origin, development, current situation, theme and characteristics of the Yi and Han auspicious patterns.Secondly, the similarities in expressional techniques of the Yi-Han auspicious patterns are discussed in this thesis----the techniques of allegory. Chinese people pay much attention to the whole-grasp of things, emphasizing generalities, pursuing circumlocutory suggestions and advocating implication, integrity and harmoniousness. With such thinking ways, Chinese people are likely to perceive, to feel the boundless universe through their minds and hearts. During this process, they tend to make a comprehensive, direct, rapid and skipped conclusion within their experience according to their own value orientation and thereby sublimate to a high status in very short time, achieving recognizing each other between subjects and objects and revealing their theme in a very circumlocutory way.Thirdly, the differences in expressional techniques of the Yi and Han auspicious patterns are discussed in this thesis. With intuition thought, people of Yi nationality often use the ways of symbolizing, showing their reverence for the life and their craving for strength, which has strong primitive religious sense. There are full of historic, social, customary, cultural and religious connotations in the Yi auspicious patterns. They can be regarded as the marker of the different level of productivity, reflecting the abundance in the development of social relations and human consciousness. They are also the legacy of the totem worship, the reflection of the Yi people's characteristics mental world, containing aesthetic taste, aesthetic ideals, and aesthetic pursuit. While with the integrated thinking, Han people often uses the method of homophonic puns, expressing their yearning for the "happy","hingh rank", "longevity" and "joy", which is full of primitive witchcraft thinking. Finally, this thesis explores the preservation, inheritance and application of the Yi and Han auspicious patterns, trying to provide more ways for the modern design and promote the inheritance and development of the Yi and Han auspicious patterns. Though all belonging to the returning of cultural consciousness, the reflections on the traditional auspicious patterns culture on different levels is not narcissism or to seek novelty for the traditional culture, but rather, it is to avoid cultural crisis and reconstruct the cultural system. The art culture of auspicious patterns is a trend from folk secular religious life to modern art as a result of the loss and interlacing of the multi-cultures.
