Purpose: To survey nephrotoxicity of total extractive Rhubarb and Dahuang Zhechong Pill in view of treatment chronic nephrites ,and to determine safety range of dosis toxica and therapeutic dose .Method:Rats with membranous glomerulonephritis were induced by cation bovine serum albumin (C-BSA).To give total extractive Rhubarb(0.25,0.5,1,2,4g/kg) and Dahuang Zhechong Pill (0.5,1,2g/kg)with different dose for oral use . After 3 weeks renal organ index, orinary protein, total protein, albumen, globulin, triglyceride, cholesterol, urea nitrogen, creatinine and renal histology were examined. To investigate effects and toxicity of total extractive Rhubarb and Dahuang Zhechong Pill.Result:As compared to model group, total extractive Rhubarb group(0.25,0.5,1g/kg) and Dahuang Zhechong Pill(0.5g/kg) showed less renal pathological injury, less orinary protein, triglyceride and cholesterol, higher total protein and albumen. Total extractive Rhubarb group(2,4g/kg) and Dahuang Zhechong Pill(1,2g/kg) showed less glomcrulus pathological injury, but more severe renal tubule injury, higher orinary protein, triglyceride, cholesterol, creatinine and urea nitrogen, less total protein and albumen. Conclusion: Total extractive Rhubarb and Dahuang Zhechong Pill has better effect on rats with chronic nephritis in opposing dose range, otherwise has nephrotoxicity. Dosis toxica of total extractive Rhubarb is 2 to 4g/kg, therapeutic dose of total extractive Rhubarb is 0.25 to1g/kg, Dosis toxica of Dahuang Zhechong Pill is 0.25 to 1g/kg, therapeutic dose of Dahuang Zhechong Pill is 0.5 to1g/kg .
