As a common and frequently-occurring disease, Infantile Diarrhea is one of "four preventive diseases" in pediatrics. Diarrheal diseases can be complicated by dehydration, electrolyte and acid-base balance disorders, myocarditis, etc. Persistent unhealed diarrhea will lead to children with malnutrition, low immunity, repeated respiratory infections, even multiple organ complications, which seriously affects the growth and development in children. According to WHO statistics, case-fatality rate of the persistent diarrhea can be as high as 15% for all diarrhea deaths 30-50%. Therefore, the new treatment of improving the clinical efficacy in chronic diarrhea has become one of the problems demanding prompt solution. In October 1993, the Ministry of Health published "China's diagnosis and treatment of diarrheal diseases program," in No.37 document, which emphasized the treatment of diarrhea should be combined with traditional Chinese medicine treatment. In recent years, it has reported that chronic diarrhea has achieved great efficacy by the Chinese and Western medicine of combination treatment. Under the guidance of the TCM syndrome differentiation and TCM theory,64 cases of clinical persistent diarrhea and chronic diarrhea all accepted western medicine depending on the diseas, on the base of traditional external medicine, to evaluate clinical effect and conclude the experience, thereby guiding the clinical treatment.Papers, includes two parts:literature review and clinical research.Literature review:children with chronic and persistent diarrhea Research Survey introduced theories research about infantile diarrhea disease from Western and Chinese medicine.Clinical research:64-observed children come from Pediatrics clinic department of Wang Jing hospital affiliated to China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. They all accepted traditional Chinese medicine massage and Umbilicus, combining conventional Western medical treatment, for 10 days for a course of treatment. Respectively, treatment effect was analyzed in the treatment of the first 5 days,10 days and all data for statistical analysis, concluded as follows:1. The total effective rate was 48.44%in the fifth day, stool frequency and characteristics, sub-disease and disease in the general situation has obviously improved than those before treatment (P less than 0.0001).2. The total effective rate was 93.75%in the tenth day, stool frequency and characteristics, sub-disease and overall situation of the disease has significantly alleviated than those before treatment (all P<0.0001).3. The associated symptoms can be obviously improved average in 3-5 days such as relieving abdominal pain and abdominal distention, advancing appetite, increasing intake, improving sleep, and so on.4. Study found that the effect is more significantly increased in parents and children with good adherence, than those of somewhat weaker adherence.
