The disease spectrum and epidemiological trends of acute pancreatitis are changed with the quick pace of life, unhealthy diet habits and aging population, so that these aspects of acute pancreatitis are concerned about. Studying the case of acute pancreatitis is the main part. This study is to investigate the characteristics and trends of acute pancreatitis via analyzing cases to bring some benefits for clinic and study. This study has discussed the theory of acute pancreatitis from Traditional Chinese Medicine via summarizing the etiology, mechanism, symptom, diagnosis and therapy methods. On the other hand, we also summarized the theory of acute pancreatitis in Western Medicine.This study had collected 75 acute pancreatitis cases form Gastroenterology department of Dong Zhi Men hospital from 1982 to 2009, and investigated age, sex, seasonal prevalence and disease trends via retrospective cohort study from these cases. The results are as follows:1 Incidence rate of acute pancreatitis in young adults is the highest, but it will go down with age.2 The incidence of acute pancreatitis is obviously related with seasons:the time from October to 2 years beginning in January is a high time. The hot summer is another peak. However, unhealthy diet is the main cause of acute pancreatitis. Abdominal pain is the main symptom of acute pancreatitis from TCM diagnosis.3 Liver qi stagnation, damp heat in spleen and liver and damp heat ispleenstospleen are the main symptoms. Large Chai Hu Tang and Qing Yi Decoction are the most common therapy methods.4 Currently, acute pancreatitis are mainly treated with Western and Chinese integrative medicine, and most of patients could be cured after this kind of therapy.In this study, we have found that the incidence and trend of acute pancreatitis are related with TCM syndromes by analyzing the cases of acute pancreatitis from Dong Zhi Men Hospital. We believe that this study is not only to give some benefits for this disease prevention, treatment and research, but also for development of department, medical resource allocation.
