This study is designed to quantitatively analyze the kinematical features of 5 kinds of Tuinaology manipulations including rolling, pointing, kneading, patting, vibrating, by the modern biomechanical theories and experimental methods. The characteristics and principles of these manipulations are deeply investigated and discussed on their kinematical and kinetic patterns through analyzing above results of measurement. Methods: Our research consists of two parts including data collection and data analysis. 1 data collection: by video cameras and 3-dimensional computer force-measuring platform we recorded the operation processes of 30 operators' 5 kinds of manipulations. Half of 30 operators are specialist on manipulation and the rest are apprentices. 2 data analysis: every manipulation is reconstructed by 3-dimensional force-measuring software and the mechanical parameter is extracted including 3-dimensional force value, frequency, time-force wave chart, applying point track chart, and plane force direction displaying chart. Interpretation is made based on the teaching requirements of corresponding manipulation and essential points of every operation are confirmed, for instance, the requirement for force wave, strength, frequency, and rhythm. Then the main parameters of apprentices is compared with the specialists' in order to find the difference between two groups and identify the each features of same manipulation on different levels.Result: outcomes show that there are no statistic significances between 2 groups in force, frequency on almost all 5 kinds of manipulations. But the coefficients of variation of applied force and frequency in specialist group are significantly lower those in control group, that means specialists' manipulations are more even and stable. Conclusions: the biomechanical features of manipulation can be recorded effectively by 3-dimensional computer force-measuring system. It also make researchers analyze the 5kinds of manipulations in kinematical biomechanics. This study is help to quantificationally describe manipulations, and is the basic work for standardization of teaching and examination on Tuinaology.
