Definition of Dysuria according to《Dictionary for SHANG HAN ZA BING LUN》is "The lack of urine quantity or difficulty in urination or both occurs at the same time".《HUANG DI NEI JING》spent a great length in describing the physiology,pathology and metabolism of water and body fluid,《NAN JING》also had some mention about it,the famous ZHANG ZHONGJING also values greatly on this matter,the word "Dysuria" is often mentioned on his books.This thesis is about literature research,with ZHANG ZHONGJING studies on Dysuria as the main subject,discussing every aspect from the connotation,theory, methods,formulas,and also by analyzing recent literatures and clinical cases reports of later generation doctors understanding the development of ZHANG ZHONGJING'S treatment method for Dysuria treatment nowadays.This thesis is divided into 7 points.First part is to determine the definition of"Dysuria" according to ZHONGJING;he believed that the term includes difficulty in urination,urinary inhibition,incontinence,or lack of quantity. Furthermore,in cases of ISCHURIA and STRANGURIA,both have the characteristic of Dysuria but not inevitably connected.Second part discuss about ZHONG JING'S studies on Dysuria origins,based on NEIJING and NANJING,discussing their impact on ZHONGJING'S studies.This part summarized water and body fluid metabolism,physiology,pathology and their related symptoms according to NEIJING and NANJING.Third part summarize ZHONGJING'S studies on the etiology,pathology,syndrome,and treatment methods for "Dysuria",it concludes that Dysuria are caused by external invasion, mental imbalance,damp heat,internal organ complications,mistreatments etc.Pathologies of Dysuria includes:fluid retention,damaged to fluid,disturbance of qi movement,stagnant and jamming dampness-heat,cold head stagnation,water and food imbalance,water stagnation due to yang deficiency.Main treatment methods includes transform qi and coarse water,to clear heat and nourish yin,to clear qi mechanism,to clear heat and eliminate dampness,to clear lung and transform fluid,to clear heat and coarse water,to warm yang and transform qi,to warm and tonify kidney.Main formulas for Dysuria such as WU LING SAN,ZHU LING TANG,YIN CHEN HAO TANG,ZHEN WU TANG,JIN GUI SHEN QI WAN,SI NI SAN,GAN CAO FU ZI TANG,XIAO QING LONG TANG,GUI ZHI QU GUI JIA FU LING BAI ZHU TANG etc.Fourth and fifth part discuss about summarization of the characteristic and meaning of ZHONGJING'S studies on Dysuria,it shows the importance of Dysuria characteristic and its symptoms differentiation to ZHONG JING.To understand the pathology,to know the part that had been affected,differentiate the characteristic,differentiate syndrome,to determine the treatment method,to monitor the treatment effects.To determine differentiation characterization (meridian or zang-fu organs),to value greatly "spleen qi disperse fluid" and it's relation to LING GUI formulas,and "kidney governing water and body fluid function" and it's relation with SHEN QI WAN,main symptoms and side symptoms.Sixth part discuss about later medical doctors understanding on ZHON GJING'S studies and its development.This includes famous doctors from the time of HAN·SUI·TANG, SONG·JIN·YUAN,and MING·QING dynasties.From the time of HAN·SUI·TANG dynasties it was widely believed that Dysuria were all the caused by external factors,with damp heat as the main etiology.Until the time of SONG·JIN·YUAN dynasties there were some studies stated that internal factors such as fatigue,enclosed wind etc.also had roles in Dysuria.In the subject of treatment method the medical experts of MING·QING dynasties summarized previous studies and develop a more complete and thorough theory,to complete the six meridian syndrome differentiation,perfected the formulas to treat Dysuria.Seventh part discuss about the use of formulas for Dysuria treatment and their development, these includes the numerous medical cases and modern literature summarization.This thesis report begins with the discussion on ZHONGJING'S theories on diagnosis and treatment for Dysuria that originated from the book of NEIJING and NANJING.It summarized ZHONGJING'S treatment method and formulas,and to systemized later medical doctors' view on ZHONGJING'S theory and their own views and improvement.From origin it flows,and with time provides us with a complete and thorough systemized theory on Dysuria.
