The multi-parameter patient monitor already widely applied to clinical operating room, guardianship room, first-aid room, is able to measure the physiological parameter such as ECG, heart rate, pusle, blood oxygen saturation, blood pressure, breath rate and body temperature on real-time continuously and non-invasively. USB (universal serial bus) equipment is easy to install and operate. It may expand I/O, cost low, support data real-time transmission and provide certain electric current for the peripheral. With this technology using in the design, the patient monitor conforms to the development trendcy of morden medicical instrument with the advantage of modulation, intellectualization, small and easy to use, network ect. It satisfies the digital hospital, the community medical service and the long-distance medical demand.This paper describes the design and function of a multiparameter patient monitor which is based on USB interface technology and Windows XP operating system. By widely studying in the USB interface technolongy, the system uses the USB-to-UART single chip bridge joint technology and transmits all monitoring module data to the PC host on real-time. The survey module applies the highly-integrated and high accuracy 12 bits data gathering chip ADμC812 , which internal integrates 8 bits MCU(with 8051 compatible) and 8 channel ADC and which applies 32 programmable I/O line and standard UART serial port. The system application procedure uses the object-oriented design method, controls the USB interface and receives data from USB, uses the PC formidable computation and data storage function and the good man-machine contact surface, has realized the monitoring parameter real-time gathering, demonstrates and the profile analysis continuously. This system can monitor the physiological parameter such as heart electricity, breath, blood oxygen and body temperature and so on.
