Radix Astragali is the dry root of Astragalus membranaceus(Fisch.) Bge.var.mongholicus(Bge.) Hsiao or Astragalus membranaceus(Fisch) Bge.And it is a common and well known traditional Chinese medicine which is used to calming the liver, relieving depression,promoting blood flow,eliminating wind,improving vision,relieving itching.Studies on the chemical constituents in Radix Astragali initiated and many papers have been published on its chemical constituents and pharmacological activities.Crude preparation of tatol saponins exhibited its abilities in antagonizing myocardial ischemia, reducing blood pressure,reducing cholesterol,increasing ratio of lecithin to cholesterol,and preventing the deposition of lipid in arteries,myocardium and liver.The main components of Radix Astragali are saponins,flavonoids,alkaloids,polysaccharides,sterols,amino acids, terpenes,fatty acids and inorganic salts etc.I use the colorimetry and HPLC method to determinate the contents of AstragalosideⅣin aboveground parts of Astragalus merrdoranaceua,And the content of the total saponins in aboveground parts is 22.96mg/g and the contents of AstragalosideⅣin aboveground parts is 3.615 mg/g.On the review of chemical constituents of Radix Astragali and its pharmacological activities,Four constituents were isolated from it by using open-column(silica gel,macroreticular resin,Sephadex LH-20, ODS),et al.On the basis of spectroscopic analysis,including 1H NMR,13C NMR,ESIMS and chemical methods,we identified 3 compounds'frames,which can be found in the root of Radix Astragali.They are 5,7-dihydroxy flavonoids,5,7,4'—trihydroxy flavonoids and AstragalosideⅣ.The results of the studies show that some comtents are same in aboveground parts and the root of Radix Astragali and aboveground parts are worthy to be developed and used.
