Yin-yang Theory serves as one of the foundations of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM), and the properties and etiology of all diseases can be divided into yin or yang. Two most famous debates upon yin-yang imbalance in human body are "excessive yang with deficient yin" by Zhu Danxi and "deficient yin with yang not in the state of excess" by Zhang Jingyue.Zhu's opinion is commonly used in gynecology since the physiological processes of female consume more blood. However,we found different situation in dysmenorrhea, delayed menstruation and chronic pelvic inflammatory disease during clinical practice. Thus this clinical survey has been done.OBJECTIVE:To analyze the common syndromes of dysmenorrhea, delayed menstruation and chronic pelvic inflammatory disease in TCM and preliminarily study the relation of Yin-yang Theory and gynecology.METHOD:90 patients with dysmenorrhea, delayed menstruation or Chronic pelvic inflammatory disease(30 from each disease) were interviewed.Conditions of menstruation, pelvic pain, leucorrhoea, general symptoms, tongue, pulse, etc.were recorded in specific charts. All data were processed by Excel software.RESULTS:The rates of yin syndrome in dysmenorrhea, delayed menstruation and chronic pelvic inflammatory disease are separately 80%,70%and 70%;the rate of yin syndrome in all 90 patients is 73.33%,while yang syndrome only accounts for 26.67%.The rate of yin syndrome is much higher than yang syndrome either way.CONCLUSION:The theory "deficient yin with yang not in the state of excess" by Zhang Jingyue accord with clinical situation better in dysmenorrhea, delayed menstruation and chronic pelvic inflammatory disease than the theory "excessive yang with deficient yin" by Zhu Danxi.
