This thesis is mainly composed of two sections: documentary summary and clinical application.1. Documentary summaryThis thesis is a summary of the developing history of Meridian-Muscle Region Theory(MMRT) and the instinct, distribution, category and physiology of Meridian-Muscle Regions(MMRs). Meanwhile in this thesis the pathology, pathogeny, mechanism, syndrome and treatment of the diseases of MMRs are summed up. And also the clinical application of the theory are summarized.MMRT originated in Stone Age, came into being in Warring States Period, Qin and Han Dynasty, improved from Jin to Tang Dynasty, and became prosperous in Ming and Qing Dynasty, but eclipsed from Opium War. It revived after the foundation of the People's Republic of China. There are four different points of view about the essence of MMRs:①tendon,②muscle,③nerve,④superficial vein. MMRs have nine characteristics:①coming out of nails,②assembling in articulations,③generally the same distribution with meridians,④centripetal distribution,⑤no synodical feature of exterior and interior sections,⑥not entering viscera,⑦tridimensional distribution,⑧contacting facial features,⑨being governed by liver,⑩strong MMRs and thin MMRs cooperated with each other. In general there are six kinds of MMRs:①Big MMRs,②Small MMRs,③Integration of MMRs,④Fascial MMRs,⑤MMRs with capability of connectiong organs,⑥MMRs on the both sides of the spine.MMRs get nutrition from spleen and stomach, are controlled by liver and kidney and have the functions of banding bones, controlling the movement of the body, holding all kinds of the tissues together and defending against external nosogenetic factors etc.. Trauma, external nosogenetic factors, fatigue, consenescense and weakness can lead to diseases of MMRs, which have the syndrome of strained MMRs or lax MMRs. Different diseases of MMRs have different symptoms. By diagnosing definitely and using acupuncture and moxibustion or massage therapy etc., good curative effect can be acquired. Lots of documents recorded the use of acupuncture in many diseases of MMRs.2. Clinical applicationThis thesis states several diseases of MMRs, such as: stroke, facial paralysis, the small of the back pain, shoulder pain and cramp of the facial muscle etc.. Obvious effect was obtained by using acupuncture and moxibustion.
