This dissertation has two parts. The first part is the study of chemical changes of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) during the preparing process, in order to reveal the mechanism of increasing effectiveness and detoxication. The second part is the study of chemical changes of compound prescription of TCM during decoction. The preparing process of TCM is one of preparing techniques according to pharmic characters and clinical requirements. The chemical constituents of TCM are remarkably changed during the preparing process, due to the heating, steeping and so on. The changes of the constituents consequentially result in the changes of the characters of TCM. Eleven TCM have been chosen as subjects, using HPLC to compare chemical constituents of individual TCM before and after preparing process. The results confirmed the hypothesis that preparing process changes the chemical constituents of TCM.Compound prescription of TCM make of two or more TCM individuals according to pharmic characters and clinical requirements. HPLC was used to analyze chemical constituents of six compound prescriptions of TCM. There are obvious chemical changes during decocting process through comparing the chromatograms of single TCM and compound prescription.
