Objective:The climacteric is the transitional period of a woman from bearing age toagedness.During this period,the body has very significant physical changes.Ovariesatrophy and dysfunction gradually.The excretion of estradiol decreased markedly andthe vegetative nerve dysfunction gradually occurs.As a result,the patient may havemany unhappy feelings such as hot,flashes,nervousness,depression,irritability,insomnia and so on,namely the Perimenopausal Syndrome. Parts of climactericwomen usually accompanies serious the learning and memory impairment. Seriouscould develop to Alzheimer's disease.The cognitive ability of the human being will bedecreased obviously, which bring much trouble to lives. So,it is important for thecoming aging society to effective strategy. Experiments of the Gengniananyi soupshowed that it had the effects of adjusting the nerve function, regulating the generationendocrine, enhancing the immunological competence, preventing and curing the bonerarefaction and the cardiovascular diseases. To investigate the effects on memoryfunction,blood-serum SOD and MDA of climacteric rats of Gengniananyi soup.Methods:The study object was the 30 female Sprague-Dawley (SD) menopausal rats of 11-15 months old(body weight 250-350g). The rats were divided randed randomlyinto three groups (menopausal contrast group, Gengniananyi soup group, the westernmedicine group), and took 10 female SD rats of 4 months (body weight 130~180g) tobe the normal contrast group. After four weeks,all rats were tested respectively withMorris water maze for the 5 sequential days.The animals were examined theblood-serum SOD and MDA after last trial of Morris water maze test.Results:1 In the first day trial of Morris water maze test, the differences of the escapelatency between the four groups were not significant (P>0.05). In the second day, themenopausal group was higher than that of the youth models (P<0.05); TheGengniananyi soup group and the western medicine group was lower than the menopausal group (P<0.05), but the differences of the above indexes between thetwo groups were not significant (P>0.05). In the 3 and 4th day, the menopausalgroup's escape latency was higher than that of the youth models (P<0.01); TheGengniananyi soup group and the western medicine group was lower than themenopausal group (P<0.01), but the differences of the above indexes between thetwo groups were not significant (P>0.05).2 In the five day, trial of Morris water maze test, the menopausal group cutthrough the number of times of original platform position in the 120s was lower thanthat of the youth models(P<0.01); The Gengniananyi soup group was higher than themenopausal group (P<0.01); The western medicine group was higher than themenopausal group (P<0.05); The Gengniananyi soup group was higher than thewestern medicine group (P<0.01).3 The blood-serum SOD of the menopausal group was lower than that of theyouth models (P<0.01); After being treated with Gengniananyi soup and the westernmedicine, SOD increased evidently than that of the menopausal group(P<0.01); Thechange of SOD between the Gengniananyi soup group and the western medicinegroup: the SOD of the Gengniananyi soup group had ascendant tendency, but thedifferences were not significant (P>0.05).4 The blood-serum MDA of the menopausal group was higher than that of theyouth models (P<0.01); After being treated with Gengniananyi soup and the westernmedicine MDA decreased evidently than that of the menopausal group(P<0.01); Thechange of MDA between the Gengniananyi soup group and the western medicinegroup: the MDA of the Gengniananyi soup group had descendent tendency, but thedifferences were not significant (P>0.05).Conclusion:The experiment proves that Gengniananyi soup can raise the learning andmemory ability of the menopause SD rats, it can degrade the blood-serum MDA,going up the blood-serum SOD. It provided an experiment basis for the clinicalapplication.
