Objective:To investigate the clinical significance of the predictability value of tertian serum beta human chorionic gonadotropin and serum progesterone in 3 weeks pregnancy after assisted reproductive technology(ART).Methods:During 14~21 day after ovulation or 14~18 day after ET,theβ-hCG was monitored twice range of 48 hours while the progesterone was monitored only once.The pregnancy outcome which was divided into three groups in 12 weeks:the normal intrauterine pregnancy outcome,the poor intrauterine pregnancy outcome with the chemical pregnancy and the ectopic pregnancy outcome was recorded.Results:The rising level of 48 hours ofβ-hCG and the level of the progesterone showed clear correlation with consequence of ART.(1)The rate of the normal intrauterine pregnancy outcome when serumβ-hCG level of 48 hours doubling was higher than that when not doubling,while the rate of the poor intrauterine pregnancy outcome with the chemical pregnancy and the ectopic pregnancy outcome when serumβ-hCG level of 48 hours doubling was lower than that when not doubling(p<0.001),the difference was significant.(2)The rate of the normal pregnancy outcome of serum P≥20ng/ml in early pregnancy was higher than that of serum 15ng/ml≤P<20ng/ml,10ng/ml≤P<15ng/ml and P<10ng/ml,while the rate of the poor intrauterine pregnancy outcome with the chemical pregnancy and the ectopic pregnancy outcome of serum P≥20ng/ml was lower than that ofserum15ng/ml≤P<20ng/ml,10ng/ml≤P<15ng/ml and P<10ng/ml(p<0.001 ),the difference was significant,so it was thought the proportion of the pregnancy outcome of the four groups was different.(3)The rate of the normal intrauterine pregnancy outcome whenβ-hCG doubling with P≥20ng/ml was higher than that whenβ-hCG no doubling with P≥20ng/ml,β-hCG doubling with P<20ng/ml andβ-hCG no doubling with P<20ng/ml,while the rate of the poor intrauterine pregnancy outcome with the chemical pregnancy and the ectopic pregnancy outcome whenβ-hCG doubling with P≥20ng/ml was lower than that whenβ-hCG no doubling with P≥20ng/ml,β-hCG doubling with P<20ng/ml andβ-hCG no doubling with P<20ng/ml(p< 0.001),the difference was significant,so it was thought the proportion of the pregnancy outcome of the four groups was different.(4)The sensitivity and negative predictive value of serum P≥20ng/ml as diagnostic criteria is higher than that of serumβ-hCG level of 48 hours doubling andβ-hCG doubling with P≥20ng/ml as diagnostic criteria;the specificity and positive predictive value ofβ-hCG doubling with P≥20ng/ml as diagnostic criteria is higher than that of the others.Conclusions:The rising level range of 48 hours of twice serumβ-hCG with the level of progesterone is a useful predictor of pregnancy outcome.
