Objective To evaluate the risk factors affecting the in-hospital mortalityafter resection of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Method The cases who underwent hepatic resection of HCC in West Chinahospital of Sichuan University during 1998-2005 were divided into twogroups with in-hospital death or alive. The two groups were compared forpreoperative, perioperative, postoperative factors. The prognostic factors forin-hospital death were further analyzed to identify the factors that might haveled to increase in-hospital mortality. Results The clinical data of 17 patients who died of resection of HCCbetween January 1998 and January 2006 were collected. And the clinical dataof 63 patients who were survival after hepatectomy during the same periodwere also collected. The in-hospital mortality was 1.77%. The causes fordeath were liver failure, bleeding and infection. Conclusion Complicated liver function, the stage of liver cancer ,thedegree of liver cirrhosis and the volume of blood loss during operation weresignificantly related to in-hospital mortality.
