Powder For The Treatment Of Subacute (deficiency Of The Spleen) Eczema Shenlingbaishu Clinical Studies

Background Eczema is a kind of scytitis caused by endogenous and exogenous causes and is characterized by obvious tendency of exudation, rash multiformity, localized infiltration and pachynsis in chronic stage, severe pruritus and easy recurrence. As for western medicine, eczama is conventionally treated with antihistamine and hormone. Eczema recurs shortly after drug withdrawl and many side effects result from long-term use of hormone(e.g., senile patients may develop into secondary erythrodermia after long time use of hormone.). Comprehensive treatment which combines herbal decoction with external lotion based on the theory of TCM has advantage in alleviating side effect, reducing recurrence rate and improving the curative effect.Aim This study is aimed at to observe the curative effect of the modification of Shenlingbaizhusan on eczema of spleen deficiency type through the comparison with cetirizine and demonstrate the safety and effectivity of traditional medicine. Method 53 patients with eczema of spleen deficiency type from the our-patient department of dermatology in Jiangsu Provincial hospital of TCM were divided into two groups. Among them, 34 were in the traditional medicine group and the rest were in the cetirizine group. The traditional medicine is the modification of Shenlingbaizhusan and the dosage is one decoction decocted in water for two times oral am and pm one day. Cetirizine is 10mg, one time per night. Huangqin oleamen and Piyan lotion were applied for patients in both groups. One course of treatment is two weeks and the treatment last for three courses. All the data were through statistical treatment after each end of course on which the evaluation of effect was based.Result In the traditional medicine group 16 patients were cured, 15 obtained obvious effect, 1 patient had somewhat effect and 2 patients had on change. The population mean of decreased integral is 10.65. In the cetirizine group 2 patients were cured, 13 obtained obvious effect, 3 patient had somewhat effect and 1 patients had on change. The population mean of decreased integral is 9.16.
