Supported by the United Nation Population Foundation (UNFPA), a case study on cost-effectiveness analysis on family planning and reproductive health services at grass root level was conducted in Jimo county of Shangdong Province and Zhanyi county of Yunnan Province. The general objective of this study is to describe, compare and evaluate the cost-effectiveness of family planning services in two different service delivery patterns. Based on System Analysis Framework of Cost-effectiveness Study, this study collected the data in terms of family planning cost and effective in the two study counties. The rate of informed choice was employed as effectiveness indicators. Finally the cost-effectiveness ratio was calculated.The case'study found out:1) Both total family planning cost and the family planning cost per married reproductive aged woman is lower in Jimo (Integrated pattern) than in Zhanyi (separated pattern). In terms of the effectiveness, the rate and number of informed choice are better in Jimo than which in Zhanyi.2) The study revealed that personnel cost are the biggest part of the total cost in both Jimo and Zhanyi, which account for 31.54% of total cost in Jimo and 27.01% of total cost in Zhanyi. The annual capital cost is also a major component of the total cost in Jimo and Zhanyi, the annual capital cost accounted for 17.22% in Jimo, and 19.75% in Zhanyi.3) There were in the different levels on the rate of informed choice in different area and sex.Based on the major findings from the study, the suggestions were given as followings: 1) Extending the family planning service to reproductive health services in order to improve the utilization of FP resources; 2) Broadening the ways of funds raising; 3) Performing the various of health communication and education to local people...
