Heat And Dampness And Qi (xiaopi Bulk) Treatment Fullness Disease Clinical Research

Objective: To study the possibility of treating Malaysia's"damp-heat inflatulence (pi-man) syndrome"by the therapeutic principle"clearing heat dispersing damp and regulating qi", and also to explore the action mechanism of"Xiao-pisan"in the treatment of functional dyspepsia. Observations are also made in the therapeutic effectiveness and safety of"Xiao-pisan"in dealing with pi-man syndrome and hence to seek for the best decoction in treating pi-man syndrome.It is widely recognised that treatment of pi-man syndrome has been reported in various medical journals with consolidate efficacy and much less adverse effects.Methods : 60 voluteered cases of functional dyspepsia from the out-patient clinic were to participate in this clinical research. They were to divided into 2 groups, the treatment group and the control group, each 30 cases. The patient in the treatment group were given 3 packages of"Xiao-pisan"each day for a course of four weeks. The patients in the control group were given 3 packages of"Ke Fu Xia Ling Tung"each day for a course of four weeks. Observations were focused on the comparison of improvement of symptoms and signs of the two groups of experiments. Statistical analysis of the level of improvement of each singular symptom and sign are also observed.Results:The results of 30 cases of study in the treatment group showed complete cure of 3 cases, marked improvement for 14 cases, effectiveness of 10 cases and failure of 3 cases with a total ameliorate rate of 90%. While the result of 30 cases of study in the control group showed complete cure of 1 case, marked improvement of 11 cases, effectiveness of 11 cases and failure for 7 cases with a total ameliorate rate of 76.7%. Clearly, there were significance differences between the treatment group and the control group in the effectiveness ( with P<0.01 ) and in the improvement of singular symptom and sign ( with P<0.01 ), which demonstrating that"Xiao-pisan"is more effective than"Ke Fu Xia Ling Tung"in the treatment of Xiao-pi syndrome.The author has strictly followed the guideline set by his / her supervisor in collecting of data, analysing of symptoms and signs as well as recording every relevant documentary report, as to ensure the quality of this thesis.
