Genuine Rhubarb Diarrhea The Next Potency Comparative Study

Rhubarb, a traditional Chinese medicine, has reliable curative effects and wide pharmacological effects. Its purgative activity is definite. Rhubarb has many original species,three species are described in Chinese pharmacopoeia published in 2000,they are Rheum palmatum L., R.tanguticum Maxim ex B,Rheum officinale Baill.They are certified products. In the meanwhile, they are many commercial grands under each Rhubarb plants.In order to investigate whether there are different purgative activity in different species or different commercial grands in Rhubarb,Three species of certified Rhubarb and four commercial grands of Rheum officinale Baill were adopted to study. Selecting purgative quantal response of mice as index,we evaluated purgative activity among deffirent samples of Rhubarb. The results are showed as follows:1. according to purgative ED50 of mice, the function of R.tanguticum Maxim ex B was the best one(ED₅₀=0.37g medicinal plant/kg), Rheum palmatum L. from sichuan (ED₅₀=1.046g medicinal plant /kg )and Rheum officinale Baill (ED₅₀=0.989g medicinal plant /kg )were similar, Rheum palmatum L. from Gansu was the worst one. The ratio of potency of that on purgative activity is 4.94:1.75:1.85:1.2. There were no significant difference in different commercial grands of Rheum officinale Baill. The ED50 of each is Tonghuo (ED₅₀=0.989g medicinal plant /kg),Shuigen (ED₅₀=1.043g medicinal plant /kg,Danpianji (ED₅₀=1.120g medicinal plant /kg) , Suji (ED₅₀=1.230g medicinal plant /kg). The ratio of potency of that on purgative activity is 1.24: 1.18: 1.10: 1. The contents of purgative components between different commercial grands was no significant different. From bioactive substance,it disclosed that there was no significant different among those.At some degree,It confered that there were no special relation between commercial grands and quality of medicinal plant.3.In order to investigate the reason of the different effect among different samples of Rhubarb, the relative components(total anthraquinones;Senna...
