Dingxiang cooperating with Yujin is a drug pair of prescription incompatibility of the 19 Incompatible Herbs. The 18 Antagonistic Herbs and the 19 Incompatible Herbs are all the incompatibilities in Seven Modes of Prescription Compatibility in Traditional Chinese Medicine. In its basic part this article gave out an elaborate demonstration of the occurrence, development, change and evolution to the theory of Seven Modes of Prescription Compatibility; we hope to reform thoroughly the incompatibility in the 19 Incompatible Herbs, whose implication has been changed in this article although still belong to the theory of Seven Modes of Prescription Compatibility in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Clear and definite conception is the base for further study and research. Most of doctors in Chinese medical history deferred to the theory of the 18 Antagonistic Herbs and the 19 Incompatible Herbs, but some doctors didn't follow it. Especially since Ming and Qing Dynasty many scholars believed that the theory of the 18 Antagonistic Herbs and the 19 Incompatible Herbs was not the absolute prescription incompatibility, and the cognition to Dingxiang cooperating with Yujin was just like this. We have found that many ancient and modern doctors treated such digestive system diseases as frequent hiccups, regurgitation and dysphagia with this drug pair and took a lot of amazing effects, especially for some chronic and stubborn deseases. The former pharmacological tests have proved tentatively that the drug pair can decrease the functions of analgesia, anti-inflammation and diarrhea-stopping, and has no effect on anti-ulcer. The tests showed that the drug pair of Dingxiang cooperating with Yujin seems to belong to the category of detoxifying.Although the drug pair has been researched by some experiments, there were not test reports choosing the indexes of gastrointestinal movements. And they all neglected a fact that Dingxiang has rich volatile oil as well. So in the test part of this article, thinking about the various effective position of Dingxiang, we researched the traditional drug pair of the 19 Incompatible Herbs through observing the physical and pathological mice gastric emptying during using the two drugs singly and compatibly. The results of our tests are very interesting. For physical mice: the decocted fluid of Dingxiang and Yujin showed neither assisting nor detoxifying relationship, but the volatile oil showed detoxifying. For pathological mice: the decocted fluid showed detoxifying, while the volatile oil showed neither detoxifying nor assisting. So because of the facts that traditional decoction had lost most of the volatile oil, and theory of the 18 Antagonistic Herbs and the 19 Incompatible Herbs came from clinical practice, and the conclusions stemed from pathological states, not physical states, the test result points out that Dingxiang cooperating with Yujin seems to belong to the category of detoxifying in Seven Modes of Prescription Compatibility.
