Objective:Examine the content of endothelin ( ET ) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)in plasma and brain tissue of rats suffered with acute cerebral ischemia to study the therapeutic effect by electroacupuncture at Baihui and Shuigou acupoints. So as to probe into the functional mechanism of treating acute cerebral ischemia by electroacupuncture at Baihui and Shuigou acupoints, and apply theoretical and experimental bases for the clinical practice. Methods:40 cases of Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups: the normal group(n=10), pseudo operation group(n=10), model group(n=10), electroacupuncture group(n=10). Rats suffered with acute cerebral ischemia were treated by electroacupuncture at Baihui and Shuigou acupoints. Test the content of endothelin and calcitonin gene-related peptide in plasma and brain tissue of rats in each group. The results were analyzed with statistical treatment. Results:1. Compared with those of normal group and pseudo operation group, the content of ET in plasma and brain tissue of rats was higher in the model group, at the same time, the content of CGRP was lower, which showed significant difference ( P<0.01) .2.Compared with those of model group, the content of ET was remarkably decreased and the content of CGRP was significantly increased in the electroacupuncture group, which showed significant difference ( P<0.01) . Conclusions:When the rats were suffered with acute cerebral ischemia, the content of ET in plasma and brain tissue of rats was higher, at the same time, the content of CGRP was lower, leading to the imbalance between ET and CGRP. Electroacupuncture at Baihui and Shuigou acupoints can rectify the imbalance of ET and CGRP in plasma and brain tissue of rats suffered with acute cerebral ischemia so that it can protect brain cell, adjust cerebral circulation and ameliorate the function of ischemic nerve cell.
