| Objective: To evaluate the effect of clearing away dampness-heat and regulating collaterals treatment on patients with Diabetic Nephropathy (DN).Method: Among 25 DN patients diagnosed as obstruction of the collaterals by damp-heat and blood stasis syndrome, 10 patients were classified into Western Medicine group served as control group and the other 15 patients into Chinese herbs combining with Western Medicine-treating group, who were treated with clearing away dampness-heat and regulating collateral herbs combining with routine Western Medicine. All patients were treated for 8 weeks. The levels of blood glucose, uric protein, uric N-acetyl--D-glucosaminidase, renal function and serum lipid were tested both before and 8 weeks after starting the treatment. Because the disproportions in blood pressure existed between the two groups and controlling blood pressure could decrease the uric protein theoretically, we compared the difference and its significance between the two groups after correcting the effect of mean arterial pressure (MAP) by covariance analysis. As for renal function and serum lipid, the difference of the reductions between the two groups before-and-after treatment were compared directly. Results: The uric protein reduced significantly after treatment in Western Medicine group. The reductions of uric protein and uric microalbumin in Chinese herb combining with Western Medicine-treating group also showed a clear statistical significance in despite of the less strict controlling blood pressure and blood glucose than Western Medicine group. Conclusion: Clearing away dampness-heat and regulating collaterals herb combining withWestern Medicine treatment can decrease the levels of uric protein and can help to slower the progress of DN. |
