| Steroid osteonecrosis of the femoral head is one of the most common disorder in the orthopaedic surgery. Its etiology and treatment are still investigating. Now the studies discover that steroid would cause osteonecrosis by hyperlipidemia, lipid peroxidation, endothelial cell destroyed and thrombo cyte aggregation promoted. Calcium channel blocker could resist lipid peroxidation, protect endothelial cell, decrease thrombo cyte aggregation. And reduce the amouts of the cholesterol and triglyceri in the osteocytes. Objective: To investigate therapeutic effects of calcium channel blocker(nimodipine) in rabbits experiment with steroid-induced early osteonecrosis of the femoral head. Methods: Twenty-seven rabbits were divided randomly into three groups: (1) normal control group (n=6), (2) model group (n=ll); (3) treatment group (n=10). Model was established by injection of 25% acetate prednisolone into peritoneal cavity. Serum cholesterol triglyceride and blood viscosity were measured and early pathohistology of femoral head were observed under microscope and electron microscope. Results: (1) The serum cholesterol and triglyceride in treatmentgroup were not significantly different from that in model group(p>0.05); (2) The blood viscosity in treatment group was significantly different from that in model group(p<0.05); (3) Pathological damage of femoral head in treatment group were milder than those in model group. Conclusions: (1) Established successfully the early animal model of steroid osteonecrosis of the femoral head; (2) Calcium channel blocker could reduce the blood viscosity and the fatty degeneration of the osteocytes in the femoral head. (3) Calcium channel blocker could not decrease the hyperlipidemia. |
