Objective.Osteonecrosis of the femoral head(ONFH)is a disable and pregressive condition and, if untreated,leads to femoral head collapse requiring total hip replacement.Because hip-preserving threapies are most effective in the earliest stages of ONFH),the key to successful treatment lies in identifying at-risk population and quantifmg their risk in terms of clinical and pathophsiological characteristics so that early diagnosis be made before head collapse.Currently critical gaps exists in our understand of clinical features and pathophysiology of ON that have direct bearing upon our ability to intervene threapeutically for hip preservation.
