Objective and method: The author summarized the modern research on Weiqi theory in T.C.M., and made a cross-sectional study among people (aged 7~79 years), selected from seriously air-polluted areas and lightly air-polluted areas in order to explore the effects of air pollution on their weiqi function..Results: 1. After balancing the age and sex factors of the research subjects in the two areas, it was found that there were significantly higher rates of detectable Weiqi Xu type subjects in the polluted areas than in the control area among the age category of 7-59 years. But the rate of detectable Weiqi Xu type among senile people (aged 60-79) in the two areas didn't shown difference.2.The ratio of subjects who felt over-strain and stress, or lack of physical exertion among people of Weiqi Xu type was significantly higer than that of the control group. Before the Weiqi Xu types take the exogenous diseases, they were more easily fatigue. This indicated that those who eypecieny over-strain and stress, or lacks of physical exertion were likely to be Weiqi Xu type than those from the control group healthly. Fatigue has been shown to be a factor related with exogenous diseases.3.Weiqi Xu types living in seriously air-polluted areas had significantly higher rates of detectable symptoms of cough, sore and itchy skin than those who living in lightly air-polluted areas. This indicated that in early stages, air pollution could harm skin and the respiratory system. The pollution caused harm to the skin or respiratory system, and also to the weiqi'function that guarded against exogenous pathogens.4.The function of weiqi defencing against exogenous pathogens in the Weiqi Xu types had been affected in air polluted areas. The clinical manifestations of excessive sweating, chills, cough, bunny nose, sone throat, and tongue, and pulse change in Weiqi Xu types were significantly higher than those in the control groups. It indicated that the diagnostic standards assumed by the author coincided with the reality. The prevalent rate of rheum, and cough of in residents of air-polluted areas was significantly higher than residents in control areas. To study the effects of air pollution on the function of the immune system among Weiqi Xu types people, 66 cases of Weiqi Xu types were selected from both areas in order to determine the immune response. The results showed significant differences of indicators for immunilogical factor (CD4,CD8,NK,IgG) were found among the Weiqi Xu types and the-control people (p<0.01 or p
