Objective To Study the relationship of carotid atherosclerosis and coronary atherosclerosis and evaluate the value of carotid ultrasound in predicting high-risk population of coronary heart disease(CHD) and people who need to be examined further by coronary angiography.Methods Carotid ultrasound and coronary angiography were completed in 84 cases suspected of CHD , lipid level and body index were measured and smoking-branches/day,history of hypertension and diabetes were recoded. Compare and analyze the atherosclerosis of carotid artery and coronary artery , evaluate the ability of carotid ultrasound and risk factors in prediction of CHD .Result Carotid degree score and Crouse score and the number of plaque in the groups of angina and myocardial infarction are higher than those in the group of no-CHD. The three indexes in angina patients are 2.1,3 and 2.3 times the no-CHD group, in myocardial infarction the times are 2.5,3.3 and 3.1. A linear correlation between coronary angiography score and carotid degree score ,Crouse score and carotid plaque was found(r=0.52 0.53 0.55 p<0.01).The same relation was also found in the number of stenosis coronay branches and the index of carotid atherosclerosis(r=0.49 0.47 0.51 p<0.01).The positive and negative accurate rate of the carotid plaque in diagnosis of CHD is 85.0% and 66.7% .The total correct rate is 79.8%,the correct rate in diagnosis of single-,double -and multi-vessel disease is 76.5%,85.7% and 95%(X2=4.1 p<0.05).Multifactorial discriminant analysis showed the correct rate of carotid Crouse score and degree score connected with risk factors in diagnosis of CHD is 89.3% and 86.9%.Conclusion The atherosclerotic extent of carotid and coronary artery have good correlation. When coronary atherosclerosis progressed, the extent of carotid atherosclerosis became more severe. The high-risk population of CHD can predicted by carotid ultrasound and this noinvasion technology connected with risk factors can raise the ability of prediction of CHD.
