Objective: To investigate the clinical research situation of acupuncture for facial paralysis in the past 50 years and the reliability of the current evidence in China. Methods: All papers were searched and assessed according to international standard and clinical epidemiology. Results: There wasn a systematic review (SR) in a total of 1021 articles. Comparing with that of the descriptive studies and expert opinions (84. 84% in a total of articles), the amount of RCTs and CCTs was few (15. 16% in a total of articles),besides the quality of RCTs and CCTs was unsatisfactory. The RCTs showed the curative effect of acupuncture for facialparalysis and general treatments, common needling methods and acupoints. Conclusion: In China, current quantity and quality of RCTs of acupuncture for facial paralysis can meet the need of clinilal practice, and to improve the treatment and prevention of facial paralysis, higher quality RCTs and SR should be required.
