BackgroundUrinary tract infection (UTI) is a common kind of infections in urinary tract diseases. Due to the lack of related knowledge, some patients pay little attention to the disease, which leads to several problems, such as the disease combines a variety of complex factors, clinical diagnosis is inaccurate, the application of antibiotics are not reasonable and standardized, the clinical cure rate is low and so on. These problems increase the sense of cause or aggravate UTI recurrent rate. The UTI belongs to stranguria in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Because of deficiency of kidney by years, excess of sexual intercourse, and the delay of treatment the evil influence sinks, or if the patients take excess amount of cold characteristic Chinese herbs with a long history of disease, or, the external cold invade body straightly, or unstable emotion, etc, the kidney and body's Yin and Yang are affected, which will convert into cold and heat mixed syndrome-type repeated UTI. Conventional, the cognition of the pathogenesis is mainly around the kidney deficiency and bladder damp-hot, but other factors such as the internal and external cold evil has not been given sufficient attention to.ObjectiveUnder the guidance of the principle of differentiation and treatment of syndrome in TCM, a visceral syndrome research on the repeated urinary tract infection patients were carried on in this research, we preliminary explored on internal cold evil in the repeated UTI patients with cold and heat mixed syndrome-type in categorical identification in terms of Internal Organs. Methods and ResultsA questionnaire investigation was conducted in all of the patients included in the study, and descriptive statistical method was used to analyze the results of investigation. The research found that, cold and heat mixed syndrome-type repeated UTI is diagnosed in 84 female patients. The age ranged from 23 to 80 years old (average:60.5 y). And over 50 years old is 75 cases, account for 89.3%. The statistical analysis of symptoms showed that the cold and heat symptoms are common in repeated UTI patients. Statistical analysis by deficiency of Yang in visceral syndrome showed that, the deficiency of Yang symptom 60 cases, accounts for 71.4%;the others 24 cases,28.6%. on all deficiency of Yang symptom, deficiency of Kidney Yang 59 cases,98.3%,;deficiency of gall bladder Yang 27 cases,45%; deficiency of Yang of both spleen and stomach 16 cases,26.1%;deficiency of heart Yang 4 cases,6.7%; deficiency of large intestine, small intestine, and liver Yang each is 1.7%, each 1 case.ConclusionsThe mixture of Cold and heat syndrome-type was common in the repeated UTI female patients over 50 years old, deficiency of yang can be prone to internal cold evil. And kidney was the most common organ which internal cold exists, the 2nd was gall bladder, the 3rd was spleen, and the 4th was heart. In addition, some individual cases had the internal cold in large intestine, small intestine, and liver. More attention should be paid to the internal cold evil in the incidence of UTI.
