In traditional marketing, it is a common practice for companies to promote their products by encouraging customers'recommendation to familiar people. However, in modern society which based on network, people begin to apply the traditional "Word of Mouth" conception on the internet. Such attempt is called "viral marketing". It is a information transition strategy about how to incent people marketing others to create an information explosion. Viral marketing doesn't mean transmit virus itself but communicate information in a manner similar spread of the virus do by massive duplication on the internet. The spread of viral marketing is a spontaneous audience between acts, so it most notable feature is the low cost and high efficiency. Since viral marketing was introduced in China in 2000, it has become a mystery of internet marketing.New media as an extension of the body organs of information, the most primitive way of infinite magnification interpersonal communication, interpersonal interaction between the dissemination of information, not to accept any constraints of time, interpersonal communication into thinking about the conditions, conceptual basis, such as network interaction, stream media interaction, mobile media, have formed a special message inspired goods the basic conditions of thinking, are interested in providing the marketing value of the basis for a new concept. Shows that viral marketing is the new media derivatives. Viral marketing, information marketing that is only used to study communication theory of operation mode, we can accurately understand, grasp, and the use of this unique new marketing approach.Under the guideline of relative theories, combined with case studies, this study is mainly to prove the theory in practical application of the correctness. Considering the lake of academic references in this field, especially relative theory concerning spread of viral marketing under a communication study approach, some methods for traditional media are adopted. This article illustrates the history of viral marketing development and its online application recently, exhibits the general picture completely, scientifically and logically, looks forward to the future combined with relative theories and attempts to provide some suggestions.
