Regional Economic Spatial And Temporal Differences In Shandong Province And Its Influencing Factors

The regional discrepancy has always been acting as a very important part of the region-research, its development including the forming, growing and factors is the hot spot which the researchers care a lot because it would be useful for the decision makers. It's developed in the Eastern Shandong Province while developing in the West. This province has made remarkable achievement across the whole country since the reform and opening up. However, there is still growing gap and unbalance economy throughout the Province, which may bring up a huge problem or challenge to the Province's comprehensive and coordinate development, along with the regional improvement.This theses is to study the growth and impact factors of region-economy discrepancy, it mainly calculates the divergence of the region-economy in Shandong since 1978 by using many methods (Nich, Economic Growth, Location Quotient, Theil Index, Weighed Coefficient of Variation, Gini Coefficient) and also decompose it by its space structure and industrial structure, tracks the center of the population and the economy throughout the whole period, and disintegrate the Province's regional economic differences in 2008 into the town-level. Finally, it gets the track of the region-economy-disparties and the impact factors of it, hoping to be useful for the next step of the Province's economic improvement. It mainly concludes that:â‘ The center of the economy in Shandong Province has moved in the direction of North-East since the reform and opening up, which means the developed district has made a further progress, broadened the gap of the region-economy, and led to a more obvious pattern which shows the Eastern part of Shandong is developed while the Western is developing. Therefore, there is a enlarging trend of Shandong's regional discrepancy though the course if full of increase and fall.â‘¡After decomposing the region-economy discrepancy by its industrial structure we conclude that the regional economic differences in Shandong is mainly led by the secondary industry, in another word, the secondary industry have a remarkable impact on the growth of Shandong's economy. After decomposing the region-economy discrepancy by its regional structure we conclude that the domestic differences of the Eastern, Intermediate, and the Western part of Shandong Province are the most important factors which constitute to the overall discrepancy of the province-the Eastern part has had a great influence on the overall discrepancy for a long time, however, the Western part caught up and played a leading roll after 1991.â‘¢The higher the degree of the city's development is, the more chances they have to be located in the Eastern coastal area or districts along the Jiaoji and Jinghu train line. There are still less developed part even in the developed area, and there are also more developing towns even in the developing region.â‘£T0here are a lot of factors impacting the region-economy discrepancy of Shandong Province, we summarize them up to the following factors as:Natural Factors, Policy Factors, Demographic Factors, and Industrial Structure Factors.
