Comparison Of The Competitiveness Of Foreign Commercial Banks

At the end of 2001,Chinese government promised to WTO that National Treatment will be offered to foreign commercial banks with non-restriction of operation rights, location and business establishment modes.Currently,the transitional five- year period was due and Chinese banking market has already been completely open for foreign invested banks from Dec.11,2006.Taking this opportunity,foreign commercial banks are expanding their businesses steadily and playing a more and more important role in China's financial system.However,whether the Chinese commercial banks are getting well prepared for the comprehensive competition? How its competitiveness is running? And what measures can be taken to improve the competitiveness of Chinese commercial banks? These issues have become the important subjects of academics and policymakers.The author hopes to find out the advantages and disadvantages of Chinese and Foreign commercial banks,and bring forward measures to improve the competitiveness of Chinese commercial banks.This thesis is structured as follows:Chapter one gives a brief introduction to the background and purpose of the study as well as the Chinese and foreign commercial banks,then outlines the structure of this thesis;Chapter two gives an overview of exsisting research results,and puts forward the idea of this thesis;Chapter three establishs the factor measurement system and undertakes a complete comparison and analysis on the competitiveness of commercial banks;Chapter four lists the strong points and weak ones of Chinese and foreign commercial banks;Chapter five gives some measures to improve the competitiveness of Chinese commercial banks;Finally comes the summary.The creativity of this thesis is embodied as follows:It integrated the fruits of former studies,and created an all-sided,complete and clear system.The system combines the quantitive and qualitive factors together and emphasizes on not only the current status and the potential of the bank,but also the ability of sustainable development.
